X
X were fabulous last night. I wish I was up to going again tonight, but I think once was enough. I was first in line so I got the spot I wanted - not against the stage (although I started there), not upstairs in a seat (although I thought about it), but a few yards from the stage, on the right, on a little riser with a wall at my back and next to the bar. Good spot for me since I can't actually get surrounded by people, and have a good chance of seeing. I hung in there until the 2nd set of encores, at which point I took advantage of other folks leaving to follow in their path and watch the last few songs from the back of the room (where there was air). Damn, Double Door was hot. Can't imagine what it's like in July or August.

Anyway, X don't like to have video taken, and I was a little too far for decent photos. I hadn't taken my SLR because I wanted video (and didn't realize I shoudln't take it), so once I found out about the video, I pretty much just gave it up and danced.

So here's someone else's video from a month ago, in NYC. Tried to find a perfect vid of them, but that doesn't seem to exist. I think this one captures them, though.

This was pretty much what our show looked like, too. Lots of folks dancing. They had a great crowd last time I saw them, and another one last night. Good times.

This pisses me off more than I can even say, not the least because I used to like and respect Bacardi

Coming on top of the whole "The Millionaires" signing fiasco, I have to wonder - are people REALLY stupid enough to think that misogyny presented in a humourous way is acceptable?

Guess what, BOYS. It isn't.

for the 2nd, and quite possibly the last, time.

Here is the blurb from Double Door

X is a noted punk rock band, formed in Los Angeles in 1977. While they achieved only limited mainstream success, they were widely considered one of the most accessible and tuneful of Los Angeles’s many punk bands. Their landmark 1980 record Los Angeles resonated so loudly with the artisans of the city it is named after, that the band received an Official Certificate of Recognition from the City of Los Angeles in acknowledgment of their important contributions to Los Angeles music and culture. They were hugely influential on various genres of music, including punk, hardcore, and folk. Original members were Exene Cervenka (born Christine Cervenka, vocals), John Doe (born John Duchac, bass and vocals), Billy Zoom (born Tyson Kindell, guitar) and DJ Bonebrake (born Donald J. Bonebrake, drums). After Zoom retired from the band, Tony Gilkyson replaced him on guitar. Zoom reunited with X in 1998. The original line-up is on tour now and is helping Double Door celebrate our 15 year anniversary with an entire weekend of shows.

Exene was recently diagnosed with MS, but says it will not affect this tour. Given that last year when I saw them, I didn't know they'd still be around THIS year, I'm definitely not counting on getting another chance. So, although there are literally *5* shows on Friday that I'd like to go to, this is where I'll be.

We'll have to take their word that Kai is under that blanket.

From Hello magazine:
On break from filming 'Salt' with Angelina Jolie in New York this week, Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts take their two little boys on a family vacation to Israel.

It was the first trip for their two sons Sacha and Kai to the country. The hands-on family helped plant a pistachio sapling at the Jewish National Fund Park in the Galilee on Saturday.

The Jewish National Fund is an environmental organization that was established in 1901 to bring life to the Negev Desert and helped educate students around the word about Israel and the environment.

"This particular area is called Galilee," the dad-of-two explained. "And in this area, approximately 750,000 trees were destroyed in missile attacks. So what we are doing here today is called Project Renewal"

I see that I forgot to update my password on the twitter feed to LJ after my hacked e-mail & LJ problem. Fixed now, so tweets should appear nightly again. I mostly live in twitter, so there will be a lot more in that post than any other, most likely.

Will be updating my calendar this weekend, I hope. We'll see how it goes. I'm not up to much - not that I normally am - because I had an altercation with a sidewalk yesterday, and it was Sidewalk 1, Emma's head 0. I was able to work anyway, and the optometrist was able to fix my glasses, and I got changed in time to (I think) get the blood out of my clothes before it set, but today I feel like I got run over by a truck. No concussion, though, I think - the headache yesterday was most likely normal allergies compounded by one large smack to the head.

Honestly, the combination of clumsiness and neuropathy was never a good thing, but as I get older, I could sure give Matt-astrophe a run for his money. (Oh, dear, I hope Sailor Mae didn't inherit any of that.)
